This is the question every car detailer and pool construction company asks before they spend a pound, and the honest answer is that they do different jobs. One captures demand that already exists. The other creates demand that does not. Picking wrong is the most common way local businesses waste an advertising budget. This is a guide, not a sales page, and you can act on all of it yourself. Evolve Enterprises is a client acquisition systems company. If you would rather have it planned, built and measured for you, that is what we do on our paid advertising page.
1Google captures demand
Somebody types "car detailing near me" or "pool repair" because they have already decided they need it. You are not persuading anybody, you are just being there at the moment of intent.
That is why Google clicks cost more and convert faster. This is the clearest example of paid advertising management doing what it is good at.
2Meta creates demand
Nobody opens Instagram hoping to find a detailer. Meta interrupts, which means the click is cheaper but the person was not looking, so your offer has to do far more work.
3Start with Google if you can afford the clicks
For most local service businesses Google is the safer first pound, because you are fishing where the fish already are.
It also gives you clean data on what people actually search for, which you can use everywhere else.
4Layer Meta once the booking flow is proven
Meta is excellent at two things: showing off visual work, and retargeting people who visited and did not book.
Both of those only pay off once the page they land on actually converts.
5Budget realistically or do not start
A few pounds a day on either platform buys you noise, not data. Work out what a booked job is worth, decide what you can afford to pay for one, and set the budget from there rather than from what feels comfortable.
6Neither works without tracking
If you cannot say which platform produced the last ten booked jobs, you are not running advertising, you are running an experiment with no results page.
Conversion tracking is not optional.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which is cheaper, Google Ads or Meta Ads?
Meta is cheaper per click and Google is usually cheaper per booked job. Cost per click is the wrong number to compare on.
Can I run both at once on a small budget?
Usually not well. Splitting a small budget across two platforms gives you too little data on either. Prove one, then add the other.
Do I need a separate landing page for ads?
Yes. Sending paid clicks to a home page is the single most common reason a local ad budget underperforms.
Want This Built For You Instead?
Everything above is the version you can run yourself. As a client acquisition systems company we build the whole thing for car detailers and pool construction companies, the campaigns, the landing pages, the follow up and the conversion tracking, then run it with you and report on measurable results.
